ANNOUNCEMENTS

Coronavirus updates

Each week, we will use this section to highlight key messages to various members of the Luther community and summarize developments and decisions over the past week. Whenever possible, we will also signal forthcoming messages.

Face coverings
All faculty, staff, students, outside contractors, and visitors are required to wear a face covering in both indoor and outdoor spaces on campus. Ongoing measures for physical distancing when in the presence of others remain in effect. Face coverings are required in all indoor spaces, including offices, common workspaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lounges, restrooms, elevators, hallways, stairwells, and athletic and recreational facilities. Face coverings may be removed while indoors in limited scenarios, as described in the July 7 memo to campus. Face coverings are required in all outdoor spaces while in the presence of others and when physical distancing of six feet or greater cannot be maintained.

Employees who are unable to wear a face covering for medical reasons should contact Human Resources (563-387-1134; <hr>). Students who are unable to wear a face covering for medical reasons should contact the Center for Academic Enrichment (563-387-1270; <sasc>). In consultation with Human Resources or the Center for Academic Enrichment, a face shield may be considered an appropriate substitute for a cloth or disposable face covering. Facilities Services has a limited number of face shields available for employees.

Please continue to monitor the Health Advisories webpage for information connected to Luther College’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Iowa Department of Public Health, and answers to frequently asked questions.

COLLEGE OPERATIONS

HR update

Winneshiek Medical Center, has temporarily suspended the community wellness blood panel blood draws at the hospital. Gundersen Health System-Decorah, continues to offer walk-in community wellness panels Monday-Friday. While WMC is not doing community panels on site at the moment, they are still coming to campus on scheduled days. Gundersen is also coming to campus. You can have blood panels from either clinic regardless of who your primary physician is. WMC will be on campus August 25, barring any unforeseen things and there are other dates in the fall as well, which you can see on the 2020 Wellness Screenings webpage. Vicky Jaeger has been extremely thorough in ensuring the risk is minimized during the on-campus blood draws, ensuring social distancing, masks, sanitizing the table forms are filled out on, having opposite entrance and exit doors, etc. Secure a spot for an on-campus screening by emailing Vicky at <jaegervi>. (Vicky is off-appointment until August so her response will be delayed)

New Title IX regulations

The Department of Education released new Title IX regulations on May 6, 2020. A Luther College task force is working to ensure Luther is in compliance with our policy and procedures by August 14, 2020. For more information on the regulations please watch this webinar. We want to hear from the Luther community. Please tell us what is still confusing about Title IX or the new regulations, what questions you still have, what would be helpful for the task force to know as we continue to work towards compliance. To share your feedback please complete this quick Google Form no later than July 31, 2020.

Updated Legends hours

Beginning Monday, July 13, Legends will offer a 4-7 p.m. shift Monday-Thursday. This will go along with the current 6-9 a.m. and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday shifts.

Early Arrival Policy

The Residence Life Office has been receiving several requests from college offices to have students return early to campus. All early arrival requests must go through the department's vice presidents for approval. Each vice president will keep a list of approved students that will include ID numbers, first and last names of the approved students, the students' arrival dates, and an account number from the department requesting the student(s) to return early to cover all early arrival meals. All requests are due to vice presidents by July 15 and all vice president lists are due to residence life by July 20. For more information, please review the early arrival policy

Parking notice

The Office of Admissions is scheduled to begin accepting visitors back to their office on July 14, 2020. In order to accommodate these visitors and prospective students the parking lot on the west side of the CFL will revert back to Admissions Visitor parking effective July 13, 2020. The parking lot on the east side of the CFL will also revert back to General Visitor parking on that same date.

It’s Phishing Season again

The impending start of a new academic year always draws out scammers intent on stealing personal data.  Watch for these clues that a message could be a scam: poor grammar and punctuation, threats, a sense of urgency and asking recipients to click on a link or provide personal information. If unsure about a message, contact the Technology Help Desk, <helpdesk> or 563-387-1000. Visit the Help Desk website for more information and tips.

College Ministries Pride T-shirts

The Luther College Ministries Pride T-shirt was created in 2018 for the first Decorah Pride festival and has been our most requested t-shirt for reprinting. Between now and Aug. 1, you can order a t-shirt online for delivery or pick up in Decorah in early August. Each sale includes a donation to Decorah Pride: a movement to increase the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrate diversity, and unleash fabulous creativity in Northeast Iowa.
