HR Updates

Optum Emotional Support Help Line
The following support is through the UMR health care plan. It is a public crisis line that is free of charge and available to anyone. You can share it with family and friends. Caring professionals will connect people to resources. The Optum Emotional Support Help Line is available 24/7 to anyone in need, even if they are not enrolled in your benefit plan. The help line, 866-342-6892, is staffed by professionally trained mental health experts and free of charge.

TIAA Workshop
The TIAA workshop that was scheduled for Friday, March 27, has been postponed until further notice.

Employee Assistance Program

Luther College Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers free, unlimited telephone consultations for employees and their spouses and children. Speak confidentiality with a master's level consultant to help you find solutions for the everyday challenges of work and home as well as for more serious issues involving emotional and physical wellbeing. Call 800-854-1446 (English) or 877-858-2147 (Spanish) to learn more and access EAP or visit luther.edu/hr/faculty-staff/eap. 

Erdman Prize Competition application deadline postponed

The application deadline for the Erdman Prize Competition will be postponed until further notice. Please let interested students know they should continue working on their applications and can send them electronically to Erin Ryan <ryaner01> if they are completed before a new deadline is announced. Please continue to check the Erdman Prize website for updates on the competition.

Cleaning Ricoh copiers or printers

The question was asked how to sanitize and clean print devices around campus. The same caution that is observed cleaning other electronic devices, should be observed with the print devices. Ricoh does not recommend spaying any liquids directly on the devices; those liquids could enter into the machine and cause electronic components to fail. That type of damage would not be covered by the service contract. Sanitizing wipes that are electronics safe can be used on the plastic surfaces. The touch screens can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol using a microfiber cloth or other disposable type wipe with isopropyl alcohol. Other multi purpose cleaners could etch the LCD touch panel. Consult the Document Center staff if you have questions.

CSA share sign-up reminder

Keep your immune system strong! There is still time to sign up for the Luther College CSA share program. Humble Hands Harvest and Canoe Creek Produce are announcing a new split share, half a share at each farm! Enjoy local produce all summer and fall. Both producers will have delivery options should the market be closed. Luther Employees receive a reimbursement on the shares you buy. Learn more and sign up on the Luther CSA website. 

Nominate a special senior! 

Do you know a Luther student graduating in May who's made a real impact? The Luther magazine seeks to profile seniors who excel academically, musically, athletically, through service, through internships, through entrepreneurship, or otherwise. Send suggestions to <magazine> by April 7. Please be specific about what makes this student special!

Aquatic and Legends Center hours

The pool will be closed until further notice for all activities beginning Tuesday, March 17.

Legends will be closed until further notice for all activities beginning Wednesday, March 18.

Archives Reading Room will be closed and open only by appointment March 23-April 14

The archivist will make reasonable accommodations to provide scans of archival documents as needed. Faculty, staff and administrators needing to access physical files in the course of their work may make an appointment or have select files sent by campus mail. Paideia all-college summer reading books available now

The all-college summer reading for 2020 is "The Best We Could Do" by Thi Bui. 120 copies are available to faculty and staff without cost, sponsored by Paideia and the Dean's Office. Pick up your copy in the Luther Book Shop! Born in Vietnam, Bui came to the United States in 1978 as part of the "boat people" wave of refugees fleeing Southeast Asia at the end of the Vietnam War. Her graphic memoir tells the story of her family's journey, her quest to understand her parents in the context of the complex history of the country "that was once home,"  and her probing of her own identity as she becomes a parent herself.
