Christmas at Luther ticket notice
Current faculty, staff, emeriti and non-performing students may secure tickets online for Christmas at Luther 2019: Whom Angels Greet with Anthems Sweet starting at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1. For detailed information, please check out the Christmas at Luther ticketing webpage. Tickets may also be secured in person at the Ticket Office. Faculty, staff and emeriti received an email message on Monday, Sept. 30, with the promotional code that will unlock the buying option online. Students will need to sign in to their Audience View account to claim their ticket. Priority status exists until Oct. 8, when ticket sales will open to alumni and parents of students not performing.

Nottingham program information session

Distinguished Service Award winners announced
Luther College President Jenifer K. Ward is proud to announce the 2019 recipients of the Distinguished Service Award. This year's recipients are Michael Anderson '99, Karen Austad '64, Steven Berry '74, Jennifer Clark Nelson '94, Richard Staff '69, Carl Stecker '79 and Carol Tomer '79. A Celebration of Distinguished Service will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, where the 2019 recipients will receive their awards.
Request for 2020 Distinguished Service Award nominations
The Honorary Degrees Committee seeks Distinguished Service Award nominations for 2020 and beyond. Any Luther faculty, staff or emeriti can recommend a name for consideration. Department heads are encouraged to discuss nominees within your departments. Nominations should be accompanied by as much documentation as is available and sent to the Office of the President, Attention: Sally Ming.
Distinguished Service Awards (DSA) are given each fall at Homecoming. Alumni who are selected generally receive the award during an anniversary year of their graduation. For the fall of 2020, the committee seeks nominees from classes ending in “0” or “5” who have graduated at least 20 years ago. Luther’s online alumni directory can be a useful tool. Use the advanced search feature to sort by class year and major.
Distinguished Service Award criteria:
1. Meritorious service in one’s profession, society, church, or community
2. Loyalty and service to Luther College
3. Fidelity to the ideals of Luther College
4. Timeliness of the award (during their reunion year)

Support United Way Campaign
Luther's giving has declined by more than $9,000 from 2013 to 2018. Please help us reverse that trend and increase giving to $13,850. Return donations to HR. If you choose to donate by mail or online, please denote Luther College as your employer. Help us do more to support Winneshiek County families and individuals. As an extra incentive to giving, donors will be entered into a raffle for prizes throughout the campaign.
Communion servers needed for Homecoming worship
College Ministries is seeking faculty and staff to assist the Luther Congregation as ushers and communion servers for Homecoming Festival Eucharist on Sunday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. in the CFL. Contact <ministry> if you can serve this coming Sunday morning.
Luther Serves
Staff and faculty are invited to join the Luther Congregation for Luther Serves, a morning of community service to assist area residents with yard work and household chores. Volunteer teams will work the morning of Oct. 12 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All work is done on a volunteer basis with donations divided between local and global ministries. Nap Chapel
Now on campus, Nap Chapel. Led by Vicar Amalia Vagts, Nap Chapel will occur on Tuesdays from 12:30-1 p.m. in the CFL Recital Hall. Consider this your "half hour of power nap," a guided 10-minute renewing nap in a sacred space. You are welcome here. WALKTOBERfest Challenge
This challenge is open to all current Luther College employees. The goal is to increase your daily step count to 10,000 by the end of the month. The challenge starts on Oct. 1 so register and get walking!
The fall of the Berlin Wall
The German Program invites the Luther and Decorah community to a commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall (Nov. 9, 1989). Were you in Germany in 1989? Did you personally experience the fall of the Wall? Has it impacted your life? If so, please share your story. Update: Staff Day 2019 Oct. 22
The date stays the same, but the activity is changing! Gear up for Staff Day 2019, which will now include a Minute to Win It Showdown. All staff will have the opportunity to be competitors or the best cheerleaders in the crowd. Competitors will participate in a series of 60-second kooky, creative and fabulously fun challenges.
Fall Career Fair Oct. 10
10 a.m.–3 p.m. in the Union. Encourage students to stop by and visit with the 45 organizations about their internships and full-time opportunities. Students should bring copies of their resumes with them and dress professionally.

Health Service Big Flupalooza Event Oct. 8

Windows update Oct. 1
ITS will begin issuing a major Windows update to applicable faculty/staff workstations on Oct. 1. If your workstation is affected, you will be notified in a separate email and you’ll have the option to choose when the update occurs in consultation with your supervisor. Paymerang partnership in Accounts Payable
The Office for Financial Services has partnered with Paymerang to make AP disbursements, including employee reimbursements. The next time an employee submits a reimbursement request to AP, they will receive an email from [email protected] asking them to enroll to receive payments from Paymerang. Questions about enrolling should be directed to <[email protected]>. Questions about the college's partnership with Paymerang should be directed to Andrew Bailey, <bailan01>, 387-1697. Paymerang is secure, efficient and limits the college's exposure to fraud.
Paideia 450 proposals
Proposals for new Paideia 450 courses for the 2020-21 academic year are due on Oct. 25. The form can be found here. If you have an idea for a course and need a collaborator, or have questions about the course requirements, please contact <reedmaka>.

Lectures
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in Olin 102, Robert Shedinger, professor of religion, will be delivering a lecture on his new book, "The Mystery of Evolutionary Mechanisms: Darwinian Biology's Grand Narrative of Triumph and the Subversion of Religion." Please help us to accommodate our co-workers who have sensitivities to various chemical-based or scented products. Human Resources asks for everyone’s cooperation in our efforts to accommodate their health concerns. Scented products such as hair spray, perfume, cologne, body sprays, air fresheners and diffused essential oils can trigger reactions such as respiratory distress, nausea, headaches and migraines. Fall Wellness chair massages
Wellness is hosting a massage therapist on campus for $20/15-minute chair massages, paid by cash, check or card at appointment or booking, 1–5 p.m. every Monday afternoon! Chair massages can help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow/circulation, increase energy-improving productivity, decrease anxiety and enhance immune system function. Local Candidate Forum Oct. 3
The Luther College and Decorah communities will have the opportunity to talk with and question the people running to represent them in local government. Luther's annual Local Candidate Forum takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in Valders room 206. Candidates for Decorah City Council, Decorah School Board and Decorah Parks and Recreation Board have been invited to attend and answer questions submitted by the audience.
Design thinking workshop Oct. 3
Students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to participate in a free design thinking workshop hosted by Destination Medical Center in Rochester, Minn from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3 in the Union. Participants in this workshop will learn the art of design thinking to address problems and create solutions in just 90 minutes. Religion, Science and Evolution–Confessions of a Darwinian Skeptic, Oct. 3
Come to the Religion Forum with Bob Shedinger at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, in Olin 102. He will share aspects of his journey from advocate to skeptic in his new book, "The Mystery of Evolutionary Mechanisms." Shedinger will explain why it matters how we understand the nature of religious thought and what it means to be a human in a dehumanizing world. A book signing follows. Rebecca Traister to give Farwell Distinguished Lecture Oct. 10
Rebecca Traister, writer for the New York Magazine and contributing editor at Elle, will give the 2019 Farwell Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Main Hall of the CFL. Traister's latest book, "Good and Mad," is the cornerstone of her lecture during which she will speak to the transformative power of female anger and its ability to transcend into a political movement. A book signing will follow the lecture.
Quinn XCII concert Oct. 11
SAC Concerts is excited to announce that Quinn XCII will be performing for the fall concert! With his ability to seamlessly blur the lines between pop, electronic, hip-hop and soul music, he has quickly paved his own lane with his unique sound. The show will be on Friday, Oct. 11 in the Regents Center. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 for the public and can be purchased online and in the ticket office.
Yam Haus headlines Rock the Commons on Oct. 12
Minneapolis based indie pop band, Yam Haus, headlines this years Rock the Commons event, co sponsored by KWLC and SAC entertainment. The event takes place from 2–5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in Benthdahl Commons (Marty's cafe if it rains). Student Employment Coordinator (1.0 FTE): Responsible for coordination and payroll of on-campus and off-campus employment according to federal regulations and established college policies. High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Custodial Staff (1.0 FTE): General custodial responsibilities include overall appearance of assigned academic and resident hall building(s). Hours will generally be 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday–Friday. High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Web and Digital Communications Content Fellow (.75 FTE): nine-month, 40 hours per week, responsible for managing the Web Content Bureau, which is the group of roughly 6–7 student workers who help maintain the Luther College website and online advertising for the college. Bachelor’s degree required along with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
