Position openings

Administrative Assistant (.45 FTE): Provides support to the director of the Center for Intercultural Engagement & Student Success. The position is 20 hours per week for 10 months, August 15- June 15. Responsibilities will include: oversee preparation and management of student and office files and immigration and tax information; assist with organizing diversity programs and events, and create weekly newsletter. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office software, knowledge of data processing and database management. The ability to learn software specific to the college/office is very necessary.

Administrative Assistant (.28 FTE): Nursing, physically located at the Rochester campus.  Hours are part-time and follow the Luther College academic calendar. Generally, school runs from late August to mid-December and late January through May. Summers and January terms are normally off. Qualified candidates will have a high school degree and additional training in office procedures and Microsoft Office and a valid driver license is required. Two years' experience in office setting is preferred. 

Admissions Counselor (1.0 FTE): Primary responsibilities of the position include coordinating the recruitment of students from specific geographical regions, visiting targeted high schools and attending select college fair programs. Duties will also include interviewing prospective students on campus and assisting with other admissions-related activities/events as assigned. Extensive travel is required, and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when appropriate. A bachelor's degree in any discipline is required. Applicants must have strong communication and relationship-building skills. One-year relevant post-graduate experience and experience in sales, marketing, communication and education preferred. A valid driver's license is required.

Campus Mover (1.0 FTE): This staff position is responsible for all types of moving-related jobs to support the various events on campus. From moving tables and chairs, musical instruments and freight; to making runs to hospital with lab specimens; to setting up residence hall rooms for summer and back for the school year. High school diploma or equivalent required. Also required are computer skills to access the college's web-based work order system and email, ability to follow and give directions, valid driver's license and good driving record. This physical position will require lifting, mobility, and dexterity.

Front-End Web Developer (1.0 FTE): Responsible for the coding, usability and layout of the Luther College website. A bachelor's degree in a related field is required along with 3-5 years of front-end developing experience.

Gregory Peterson served on the faculty for Baylor University’s annual Alleluia Conference, July 15-19, where he taught seminars on organ literature, pedagogy and church music.

And finally...

In honor of Nordic Fest this week, a rundown of Norwegian foods. A guide as you navigate through the huts downtown. 

Lefse: A traditional soft Norwegian flatbread. It is made with potatoes, flour, butter, and milk or cream.

Krumkake: A Norwegian waffle cookie. Krumkake means bent cake. Krumkake can be eaten plain or filled with whipped cream or other fillings.

Rosette: A thin, cookie-like deep-fried pastry. Rosettes are traditionally made during Christmas time. They are made using intricately designed irons.

Sandbakkels: A Norwegian sugar cookie. Sandbakkels are made of flour, butter, eggs, sugar, and almond extract—possibly with vanilla or cardamom. 

Kringle: A Scandinavian pastry, a Nordic variety of pretzel.

Rømmegrøt: A Norwegian porridge made with sour cream, whole milk, wheat flour, butter, and salt. Rømmegrøt is thick and sweet and is generally drizzled in butter and sprinkled with sugar and ground cinnamon.
