And finally...

Looking to get in one more summer activity before school starts? Nothing compares to the Iowa State Fair, which runs Thursday, Aug. 9-Sunday, Aug. 19, in Des Moines. In addition to checking out the midway, visiting the famous butter cow and butter John Deere Tractor, and Grandstand acts, taste all three of the best new food finalists:

  • Brown sugar pork belly on a stick: Quarter-pound strip of pork belly that's been honey cured, rubbed with brown sugar and cooked to crispy perfection.
  • All Iowa belly up burger: Half-pound of fresh ground pork belly, seasoned with a signature rub, then grilled and topped with pulled pork, signature sauce, thick-cut candied bacon and Rib Shack Slaw, served on a brioche bun.
  • Apple egg rolls: Egg rolls wrapped with apple filling, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, served with a side of caramel dip.
