Don't let flu give you the holiday blues

It's not too late to get a flu shot. Walk in to Health Services at anytime during office hours and receive the flu vaccine. Flu season peaks between December and February. There's still time to get vaccinated.

Program directors named

The Deans Office and the Center for Global Learning are pleased to announce the appointment of Robert and Victoria Christman as the 2020-21 Nottingham Program Co-Directors and the appointment of Robert Vrtis as the 2020 Malta Program Director. We are grateful to these faculty members for providing leadership to two important and longstanding off-campus programs.  

Workshop: Using Google Sites for eportfolios

In collaboration with ITS, the eportfolio pilot committee invites all faculty and staff members who are interested in learning more about how to use Google Sites and its capabilities for eportfolios to a workshop 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Jan. 9, in Preus Library's, Hovde Room. Some of the key benefits of using eportfolios with students and technical aspects of using Google Sites will be presented. Examples of eportfolios created using this platform and time for hands-on work in Google Sites will also be presented. To register, click here.

'The Chessboard' to be released

A new student publication, "The Chessboard," will be circulated for the first time this week. The publication is sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement and will contain student-written essays on a wide variety of social, political and cultural topics. Its goal is to stoke campus-wide conversations about contemporary issues. Copies will be distributed around campus, particularly in the Union. Pick up a copy and enjoy! 

Now scheduling counseling service workshops

Counseling services is scheduling workshops for the spring semester. Counseling Service outreach assistants offer workshops on how to help a friend, self care and the escalation workshop (relationship violence) to classes, teams, student organizations, residence hall floors or other interested groups. Masters Swim Team begins season

Decorah Masters Swim Team starts its new three-month season. "Masters" does not mean we are fast it just means we are "old." As long as you can swim a comfortable freestyle, and you are over 18, you are welcome to join us! Practices are 6 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, 6 p.m. Wednesdays and 4 p.m. Sundays. The Scrambler Challenge in January

Peace Scholar applications due Feb. 1

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage sophomores and juniors who are interested in studying in Norway this summer to apply to the Peace Scholars program. An outgrowth of the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, this scholarship provides funding for two students to study for a week at the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue in Lillehammer, and then for six weeks at the University of Oslo. Not Quite Free Lunch Dec. 11

Join colleagues at the Not Quite Free Lunch 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Nobel Room, sponsored by Wellness. Boost social and emotional wellness by getting away from the typical work space and mingling with folks from across campus. The charge is $5, payable by cash, check or Luther ID.
