Campus conversation on diversity, equity and inclusion

President Carlson, the Black Student Union and the Diversity Center are planning a conversation about diversity, equity and inclusion at Luther. The group originally planned to hold an event the week of Dec. 5, but due to the rush of the end of the semester, decided to hold the event during spring semester, once people have gathered back on campus after J-term. Once a date is set, event details will be shared via the Bulletin and the Tuesday.

Strategic planning open forums Dec. 5-6

The Strategic Planning Committee invites and encourages all faculty, staff and students to participate in strategic planning open forums Dec. 5-6 in Peace Dining Room. The purpose of these discussions is to invite conversation, to listen to ideas and to begin to discuss potential areas of priority for the college's new strategic plan.

Student forums
Tuesday, Dec. 6: 9:40-10:40 a.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Faculty forums
Tuesday, Dec. 6: 11 a.m.-noon and 4:15-5:15 p.m.

The ideas, suggestions and comments that emerge from these discussions will be incorporated into a document that will be posted for review by the campus community in January.

Strategic planning idea wall Dec. 6

In addition to the strategic planning open forums, all students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in an Idea Wall from noon-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, on the first floor of Dahl Centennial Union. The Idea Wall is a public activity through which passersby can write comments and suggestions for the college's new strategic plan.

Staff meeting Christmas party Dec. 7

The December staff meeting will be a Christmas party held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Peace Dining Room. This year's theme is "Holiday Game Night." Staff are invited to bring a monetary donation for the First Lutheran Church Food Pantry. Cash gifts allow the Pantry to purchase in bulk.

Admissions report available via KATIE

The monthly admissions report is now available in KATIE. Luther faculty and staff can access the report via KATIE approximately one week after the end of each month. To view the report, search for "enrollment data" in the Search Courses box in the upper-right corner of any KATIE page. If prompted to enroll, accept.

Snow removal parking

Faculty and Staff planning to leave vehicles on campus overnight during Christmas break should park in one of the following areas: Regents Center lot (east side closest to the Towers, first three single rows) or the Decorah outdoor swimming pool lot. Parking in any other lot on campus may result in the car being towed at the owner's expense, $100 minimum. Cars left over J-term must be parked in the City of Decorah outdoor swimming pool parking lot. Contact <facilities> with any questions.

Rechargeable batteries and cellphone recycling information

Effective Dec. 1 under the Rechargeable Batteries and Cellphones Resolution Winneshiek County Solid Waste Agency will not accept rechargeable and cellular telephones in the Winneshiek County Landfill. Luther College’s Center for Sustainable Communities has partnered with Call2Recycle which provides free battery and cellphone recycling in North America. Information on accepted items and locations of receptacles can be found on the Luther College Recycling website.

Library books due

Dec. 9 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by faculty and staff on or before Sunday, Dec. 4. Books checked out by faculty and staff may be renewed online or by emailing <library>. The new due date is May 13, the last day of classes for the spring semester. Accounts can be viewed online by clicking on "Library Account."

Document Center notice

In the past year there have been several attempts by telemarketers to solicit for toner supply orders to Luther. Supplies are available for Ricoh printers or copiers through the Document Center as part of Luther's service contract. The Document Center wants to remind faculty and staff that Ricoh will not call to solicit for toner. Do not give any information to the callers, instead tell them to not call again and hang up the call. Contact the Document Center with questions <doccenter>.

Faculty and staff PaperCut transition

Faculty and staff workstations will be transitioned to PaperCut beginning Tuesday, Dec. 6. Starting that Tuesday, color jobs will be printed differently. For more details, see Faculty and Staff PaperCut Transition.

Honey for sale

Support pollinators on campus by buying honey from the entomology lab in the Luther biology department. Available for purchase in a half pound, $2.50; one pound, $5; one and a half pounds, $7.50; and two pounds, $10; while supplies last.
