Weston Noble Celebration of Life service

Luther College will hold a celebration of life for Weston Noble at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The service will feature music by Nordic Choir and Concert Band under the direction of Andrew Last, Jennaya Robison and Joan de Albuquerque. The service will be streamed here. Additional in>formation will be provided as details become available.

Andrew Last appointed conductor of Nordic Choir

Luther announces the appointment of Andrew Last, Luther class of 1997 and assistant professor of music, as conductor of Nordic Choir. Last will begin his new duties as director of choral activities at the beginning of the 2017 fall semester. Since 2012, Last has served as assistant professor of music at Luther, conducting Collegiate Chorale and Norsemen. He also teaches conducting and high school choral methods, and serves as camp director of Dorian Summer Music Camp. Under Last's direction, Collegiate Chorale was selected to sing at the regional American Choral Directors Association convention and the national ACDA convention in 2017.

COLLEGE OPERATIONS

January staff meeting

At this month's staff meeting, Mike Anderson will talk about Luther summer camps and programs, and Amy Wrightsman and Bob Harri will talk about ways to support workplace safety. The meeting will be offered twice: at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, and 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Peace Dining Room. All staff are encouraged to attend one of the two sessions.

Women's March events on campus and in Decorah

The Women's March - Driftless Style, sister march to the Women's March on Washington, will gather supporters of women's rights at Mary Christopher Park at on Saturday, Jan. 21, and end at the Courthouse. College Ministries is hosting a sign-making party at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Center for Faith and Life Room 205 to prepare for the march. They're also offering rides from campus to the Jan. 19 Community Sing at the Oneota Co-op at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow. Luther community members interested in the Thursday and Saturday events can contact Pastor Anne, <edisan01>, for more information.

2017 J-term blogs

This month, 292 students and 34 program leaders will participate in one of Luther's 19 courses around the globe. Check out the January Term 2017 Course Blogs page to read about their exciting adventures off-campus!

CEPE faculty Research Fellowship: Call for Applications

The Center for Ethics and Public Engagement invites applications from any tenure-track faculty for a two-year Research Fellowship. The fellowship provides one course release per year to allow the fellow time to conduct academic research or discipline-specific work related to the annual theme of the CEPE. See the website for details and application instructions. Application deadline is Feb. 17.

Luther College Gardens growing a new legacy

The Luther College Gardens are a great place for students to learn about vegetable production. During the 2016 season Luther students grew and sold 6,300 pounds of produce worth more than $11,000 to Luther's Dining Services for use in the cafeteria, catering events and Oneota Market. At the same time, the Luther Gardens became the first liberal arts college garden in the country to be USDA Good Agricultural Practices certified for food safety practices.

Residence Life seeks nominations for Resident Assistants

Know a student with leadership qualities who stands out among their peers? Residence Life is beginning the resident assistant selection process for 2016-17 and would appreciate names of caring and responsible students who are engaged in the Luther community.
