ALICE training in Valders today

Response Options is holding an ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training session on campus today for local law enforcement officials, school officials and others. Please note there will be several uniformed and non-uniformed attendees going through crisis training. The course is provided throughout Iowa with funding from Homeland Security. The practical exercise is scheduled to take place in Valders. Please respect their space, and know that these are indeed training sessions.

Staff day reminder

Camp Luther is Thursday, June 6, with lunch beginning promptly at noon in Peace Dining Room. It is not too late to sign up for breakout sessions. Staff can register that day beginning at 11:45 a.m. in Hammerskjold for any session still open. Those who have already registered will have pre-printed session assignments on their name tags.


Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Learn the basics of yoga with Sonja Arneson-Ecklund of Sonja|Wellness & Yoga during this lunchtime class for staff and faculty Mondays from 12-12:45 p.m. Learn how to release muscle tension and increase strength and flexibility while relaxing and rejuvenating the body and mind. Sports results

Softball player Kelsey (Kittleson) Millong was presented the Duane Schroeder IIAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award May 21 at the Conference's annual awards banquet held at Loras College. Millong graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2012 after posting a 4.00 grade point average while majoring in biology. She was named to the Dean’s List in seven of eight semesters, earning induction into Phi Beta Kappa as a senior as well as an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Millong becomes the second Luther female athlete to be so honored, and the fifth overall Luther athlete to receive this award.

Book Signing
Robert Shedinger will sign copies of his new book, "Radically Open," from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the Book Shop. This event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Articles, Creations, Honors, etc.

Bradley Chamberlain has received the 2013 Janet Andersen Lecture Award from the Midstates Consortium for Math and Science. The award was established in 2008 in memory of Hope College Professor of Mathematics Janet Andersen. The Consortium seeks to improve undergraduate science and mathematics education by providing high-quality and flexible professional development opportunities for students and faculty at the member institutions. Chamberlain’s research in polymer chemistry has led to numerous publications and presentations and has been funded by over a dozen grants for more than $600,000. His work has provided research opportunities for 40 Luther students.
