Copies of 'The Space Between Us' available

Copies of the Paideia summer reading for the Fall 2013 incoming class "The Space Between Us" by Thrity Umrigar are still available. These copies are free of charge at the Book Shop for faculty and staff who are not already receiving the book as part of their work with first-year students. Please join in our conversation with the first-year class.

Food Education Events

In conjunction with their CSA-reimbursement program, the Sustainability office is offering Food Education events throughout the summer, which include a variety of cooking classes, book discussions, tours and local farm workdays.  Now that CSA shareholders have signed up, registration is open to the rest of the Luther community. Sign up online now. Luther College receives Environmental Excellence award

Luther College is one of 21 Iowa organizations and businesses selected to receive an Environmental Excellence award from Gov. Terry E. Branstad. The award will be presented Thursday, June 27, in Des Moines, Iowa.

The college was awarded Special Recognition in Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy for its work in the field of solar energy.

The awards are the premier environmental honors in Iowa.

Free yoga for faculty and staff

Learn the basics of gentle yoga with Sonja Arneson-Ecklund of Sonja | Wellness & Yoga during this free lunchtime class for staff and faculty. Mondays from 12-12:45 p.m. in Hovde Lounge in the Library. We will release muscle tension and increase strength and flexibility while relaxing and rejuvenating the body and mind. Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Requests Suspended July 3-9

Due to vacation, all interlibrary loan borrowing requests will be suspended July 3-9. Any requests submitted by Luther patrons by July 1 will be processed, and all interlibrary loan materials that arrive at the library July 3-9 will be processed and patrons notified as usual. Luther College Center Stage Series

Luther College Center Stage Series will offer rich entertainment experiences via 10 professional arts performances on the Center for Faith and Life stage during the 2013-14 season, Sept. 14-April 4. Tickets for Center Stage Series events may be purchased as a subscription package now through Aug. 23 at the Luther College Box Office or online at: http://www2.luther.edu/programming/centerstage/seasonticket/.

Lunch break wind turbine tours

Luther College hosts Iowa Prairie Conference July 18-20

Luther College will host the 14th Iowa Prairie Conference with the theme "Prairies on the Edge" July 18-20. This is the first time the conference, which moves to different sites in Iowa, will be held in northeast Iowa. The conference is open to anyone interested in prairies and is attended by a broad mix of prairie enthusiasts, educators, students, researchers and land managers. To the family of William "Bill" Menees, age 83, who died June 16 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.  Bill was the Physical Plant Director at Luther and retired in 2001.

Youth wanted: Decorah Public Library will host, “Dig Into Archaeology!” with Lilly Jensen, Education and Outreach Coordinator with the Winneshiek County Conservation Board.
