Assistant director of annual giving: The assistant director plans, directs and coordinates components of the annual giving program, in concert with the director of annual giving and the vice president for development. This is a full-time position. A bachelor's degree and excellent oral and written communication skills are required. At least two years of experience in higher education development is preferred.

Administrative assistant: Administrative assistant to provide support for the vice president for Finance and Administration. Position requires a professional demeanor and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Qualified candidates must have strong communication skills, a record of providing excellent customer service, high level of computer expertise, the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, and the ability to exercise thoughtful and independent judgment. High school diploma is required, degree in business from a community college preferred. Three years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Administrative assistant: The Financial Aid Office seeks a full-time administrative assistant to be the initial office contact for prospective and current students and their families in person, by phone and email. This person will be responsible for processing and tracking of documents and preparing completed files for review, reviewing monthly office budget expenditures, and coordinating the purchasing of supplies, as well as assisting the Human Resources and Payroll departments with clerical duties as needed. Position start date is Aug. 1.

Energy and waste fellow: The Center for Sustainable Communities seeks an energy and waste fellow. This is a 10-month, full-time, 40-hour per week (.83 FTE) non-renewable position starting Aug. 1 and ending May 31, 2017. The energy and waste fellow works with faculty, staff and students to educate the Luther community about the college's energy and waste reduction goals and related initiatives. The position requires a bachelor's degree, excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of people and a valid driver's license. One to three years of relevant work experience preferred. Experience with marketing, communications and/or web content development is desirable. Experience and/or familiarity with the Luther College campus is desirable, but not required.

Caleb Anderson '17, is the 2016 recipient of Iowa Jump$tart's GeoCache for College Cash scholarship. A physics major, Anderson is the first Luther student to receive this scholarship.

John Christianson, Marv Slind and Øyvind Gullikson spoke at the Norwegian-American Bygdelagenes Fellesraad Centennial Celebration, "Norway to America: Memories and Dreams." Christianson was the opening speaker of the event, giving a presentation on "'Janteloven' – Is That What it Means to be Norwegian?" He was followed by Slind, who discussed "The Cultural, Social, and Economic Dimensions of Norwegian Immigration to America." Gullikson was the featured luncheon speaker, focusing on the "Strength, Grace, and Skills of Norwegians." They were joined by Laurann Gilbertson, chief curator at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, who gave a presentation on "Norwegian Folk Art in America: Past, Present, and Future." Bygdelagenes Fellesraad was organized in 1916 to coordinate and advance the activities of the dozens of Norwegian "bygdelag," which brought together immigrants from the many regions of Norway. Bygdelag are organizations comprised of descendants of emigrants from Norway to North America. Every "Lag" seeks to preserve and strengthen bonds with its home district or community-of-origin in Norway.

David Njus and Lexi Scharmer '16 presented "Attachment to God Predicts Psychological Well-Being" at the 2016 meeting of the Midwestern Psychological Association.

Several students from Justin Sprung's research lab presented posters at the Midwestern Psychological Association's annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, last week. Thomas Breen '16 presented "Workin' til its Hurtin': College Students' Experience of Work-School Conflict"; Takudzwa Chawota '16 presented "Gender, Parent Socioeconomic Status, and Prestige: Impact on Student Career Choices"; Thabo Shija '16 presented "A Comparison of College Students' Job Satisfaction and Work Motivation" and McKenzie Jones '16 presented "Occupational Therapists' and Educators' Perceptions of Sensory Integration Therapy."

The 31st annual Luther College Entrepreneurial Showcase was held Tuesday, April 26, in Peace Dining Room. Since 1986, the goal of the Entrepreneurial Showcase has been to provide an annual forum for students, faculty, alumni and friends of Luther who are interested in and support entrepreneurship. The Daryl and Audrey Erdman Prizes for Entrepreneurship were awarded to Fabian Pop Pop '17, Bjorn Myhre '16 and Madilyn Heinke '19.
