World-renowned string quintet Sybarite5 worked with student composers at Luther during fall semester 2014. The ensemble was so impressed with the talent and expressiveness of the six students that Sybarite5 performed the student works in concert. Classical MPR has broadcast interview highlights and the student-composed pieces over the last two weeks, and the final installment will air at approximately 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. Merritt's works on display at Luther through Oct. 18

Data is ubiquitous in the modern world. Facts and figures fly from immediate sources and countless numbers clutter people's lives, losing meaning to abstract ideas. Richard Merritt investigates the visual principles of big data through a series of paintings and drawings in his art exhibit "Schemata," on display through Oct. 18 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery. A gallery reception will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Both the exhibit and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Luther Woman's Club meeting Sept. 15

President Carlson is the special guest and speaker at the Luther Woman's Club meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Peace Dining Room. Paideia Texts and Issues lecture: Anna Peterson

In the opening lecture of the 2015-16 Paideia Texts and Issues series, Anna Peterson, Luther College assistant professor of history, will present the lecture, "Narrating change: Norwegian women's abortion letters," held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the CFL Recital Hall. Singing with five Broadway stars can become one singer's reality at "Neil Berg's '100 Years of Broadway.'" As part of Luther's Center Stage Series, the show celebrates Broadway with a live music production of great moments from the finest Broadway shows of the century at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the CFL Main Hall.

Chance to sing at Center Stage Series program '100 Years of Broadway'

Vocalists 13 years and older are invited to audition to sing on stage with the stars of "100 Years of Broadway." Two winners and up to 10 runners-up will be selected by a panel, comprised of the producers and singers of the show, and Neil Berg himself, for a chance to sing on stage with the Broadway and receive complimentary tickets to a performance in the 2015-16 Center Stage season.

Anyone who submits a video to sing with the Broadway stars by Sept. 14 will receive discounted tickets to the performance; age 19 and older can purchase a ticket at the discounted rate of $15 and those age 18 and younger can order a complimentary ticket. Faculty Research Symposium Sept. 19

The third annual Faculty Research Symposium will begin at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in Valders 206. Harley Refsal will present a gallery talk at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Vesterheim Museum in Decorah. The Pump House Regional Art Center in La Crosse is featuring an exhibition of new works by Sarah Frydenlund in its Kader Gallery through Sept. 26.
