Tenure and promotions
Congratulations to the following faculty members who were granted tenure by the Board of Regents at the Feb. 21-22 meeting: Todd Green, religion; Michael Johnson, mathematics; Don Jones, economics and business; Ginger Meyette, social work; Ben Moore, art; and April Rowe-Neal, nursing. These six faculty were also promoted to associate professor.
Congratulations to four faculty members promoted to full professor: Ruth Berger, mathematics; Du Huang, music; Mark Johns, communication studies; and Eric Kutz, music.
COLLEGE OPERATIONS
February staff meetings
This month's staff meeting will include a presentation about benefits from Diane Tacke and updates from President Carlson, Diane Tacke and Corey Landstrom. In March the other four vice presidents will share updates. The meeting will be held twice in Peace Dining Room: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25. and 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. All staff are strongly encouraged to attend one of the two sessions.
Luther named top Fulbright producer
Luther College has been named among the top schools in the United States for number of students granted a Fulbright award. The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently announced the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2014-15 Fulbright U.S. students and the list was highlighted in the "The Chronicle of Higher Education." The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program.
Staff Excellence Award
Staff and faculty are invited to nominate an administrative or support staff person for the Staff Excellence Awards. Nominations are due April 10 to the Office of Human Resources. Lunchtime drawing sessions
The Nena Amundsen Wellness Program is sponsoring lunchtime drawing sessions this spring from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays. These sessions are open to faculty, staff and their families. Sessions are held in the drawing studio, room 203, in the CFA. All materials are provided, no experience necessary and beginners are welcome. 2015-16 comprehensive fee
The Board of Regents has set the 2015-16 comprehensive fee (tuition, room and board) at $46,590. This is a 2.9 percent increase over the 2014 comprehensive fee and the lowest percentage increase in more than 17 years.

Birthday club
Luther Dining Services is excited to introduce the new birthday club. Each week a winner will be randomly drawn from the faculty and staff celebrating a birthday that particular week. The lucky person will get a certificate for a free lunch in the Cafeteria. Happy birthday from Dining Services.
March wellness initiative

Luther to host pianist Heidi Brende Leathwood
Heidi Brende Leathwood, guest pianist, will present a concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the CFL. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Brende Leathwood will perform Sonata in A Major, Sonata in G Major and Sonata in D Minor by Domenico Scarlatti, Sonata Op. 31 No. 1 and Sonata Op. 109 by Beethoven, and Piano Sonata No. 1 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
Hot potato bar Feb. 25
Oneota will be having a hot potato bar from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25, in honor of potato month. The cost is $4.50 including toppings. Come celebrate with friends over a hot potato.
'Drill, Baby, Drill' lecture Feb. 25
Taylor Brorby has a unique perspective on the fracking industry in North Dakota. He has studied how it has created boom towns and boom industries, and all of the unique and unforeseen challenges that follow.There is no other place in contemporary America where one can witness this process at the rate and intensity as it has occurred in North Dakota.
Brorby, writer, environmentalist and GLBT rights activist, will give the lecture "Drill, Baby, Drill: The North Dakota Oil Boom and Iowa's Future" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Valders 206.
The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.
International studies information session Feb. 26
Please encourage advisees (especially first and second-years) who are considering a major/minor in International Studies to attend an IS Open House/Information Session from 9:15-10:45 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Center For Global Learning in Larson Hall. 'The Lightning Thief' Feb. 26
Percy Jackson finds his normal world flipped upside down when mythological figures seem to walk straight out of his Greek mythology textbook and into his life. Luther College's School Performance Series presents TheatreWorks USA's stage adaptation of Rick Riordan's, "Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief," in the CFL at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. David Pendergast '02 to present guest lecture Feb. 26
David Pendergast '02, and vice-president of corporate development and legal affairs at PCH International, will present a guest lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. The lecture, titled "Cross Pacific Partnerships: The Shenzhen-Silicon Valley Innovation Bridge," is open to the public with no charge for admission.
SAC Spotlight presents Staceyann Chin Feb. 27
Spoken word poet Staceyann Chin will perform her poetry at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, on the Luther campus. The performance, sponsored by Luther's Student Activities Council's Spotlight Committee, the Diversity Center and PRIDE, will be held in Marty's Café on the lower level of Dahl Centennial Union. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door.
BTQ Talent show
The BTQ talent show is at 7 p.m., Feb. 28. Tickets are available in the box office for $3 in advance or $4 if at the door. All proceeds will go to the Decorah Free Clinic and Ebola relief. Silent auction for the kids
Dance Marathon will be holding a silent auction in order to raise money for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. All the money raised from this event will be used to provide financial support for the children undergoing treatment. Up for auction will be artistic creations provided by students and gift baskets provided by local businesses. The auction will be held in the Union from 9:30-11 a.m., March 3. Paideia Text and Issues lecture featuring Nancy Simpson-Younger
Nancy Simpson-Younger, Luther visiting assistant professor of English, will present the lecture "Watching the (Secret) Sleeper in Early Modern Drama," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the CFL. Her lecture, the last in the Paideia Text and Issues "Secrecy and Transparency" series, is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Luther production tells story through dance and science
Performances of the interdisciplinary "Body of Water" dance will be 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5; 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 6; and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in the Jewel Theatre, Center for the Arts.

Job openings
Supervisor of campus visits: Full-time supervisor of campus visits, responsible for the overall operation of the Admissions Visit Center. Duties include: responding to all email and phone correspondence regarding information requests for arranging campus visits and coordinating all aspects of the campus visit. Position may require some early morning and late night hours and some Saturday work. Successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; proven ability to plan, organize and follow through with complex tasks; and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, desktop publishing, the Internet and an internal database. A bachelors degree and experience in admissions, event planning or a related field preferred. A high school diploma and some post-secondary education required.
Area coordinator: The area coordinator is a professional, 10-month, live-in position responsible for supporting the mission of the college by developing a community conducive to student learning and academic success. The area coordinator works with two residence halls and has direct supervision of 15 resident assistants. Duties include: supervision of resident assistants; liaison with administration, faculty and staff; development of programming in the halls; active participation in a duty rotation; and participation in the disciplinary process. The area coordinator actively participates in staff recruitment, selection and training activities, management of residence hall facilities and occupancy issues, and campus emergency response duty. Evening and weekend work is required. Compensation includes housing, food plan and benefits package. Masters degree is preferred, bachelors degree required. Applications will be accepted until position is filled. Position begins Aug. 1.

Justin Sprung recently published a chapter in the edited book, "Gender and the Work-Family Experience: An Intersection of Two Domains." His chapter is titled, "Family-Friendly Organizational Policies, Practices, and Benefits through the Gender Lens." A sample of the chapter can be viewed here.
Loren Toussaint was recently named to the editorial board of "Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine."
Loren Toussaint, Justin Marschall, Shanmukh Kamble and Deepti Duggi recently had the peer-reviewed, scientific journal article, "The Effects of Brief Prayer on the Experience of Forgiveness: An American and Indian Comparison," published in the International Journal of Psychology.
Dominican University has announced the hiring of Sheila Radford-Hill to the position of Chief Diversity Officer. She will start in July. Dominican University is a coeducational, comprehensive, Catholic institution of higher education and research in River Forest, Illinois. For 11 years, Radford-Hill has been a leading voice for diversity, equity and inclusion on campus. Engaging students through academic advising, teaching and program administration, Radford-Hill has encouraged students from all backgrounds to pursue their love of learning. A committee will be convened to conduct a search for new leadership for the Diversity Center.
