Wellness announcements

Dec. 31 is the deadline for the wellness checks for 2014. Each individual on the Luther plan must have completed all three steps of the wellness check and filled out the wellness check form.

When filling out the Health Risk Assessment, the primary insurance holder must register their secondary holder on the site, complete with a password. The password cannot be the same as the primary holder. To complete the Health Risk Assessment, please click here.

For individuals that paid to have their blood screening or wellness physicals, please submit receipts to Midwest Benefits to receive your reimbursement.

Free chair massages are available for students and staff from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Union each Wednesday of December.

Health care reminder

Gundersen Health System joined the Midland's Choice Network a year ago. This means that employees and dependents on the Luther College health care plan receive greater discounts at Gundersen than ever before.  Participants may move between Gundersen and Winneshiek Medical Center as needed and receive in-network discounts.

Sign up for W-2's online

All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up to receive electronic W-2's using my.luther.edu. Why receive your W-2 electronically?

  • No matter where you are located, it's easy to access.
  • There is no risk that it will get lost or stolen.
  • If misplaced, it's easy to print another one.
  • It's always possible to cancel consent and request a paper copy.

The W-2 Electronic Consent option is included in the employee profile section of my.luther.edu. If an employee chose the electronic option for the 2013 W-2, then it is not necessary to do it again for 2014. More detailed instructions and additional information can be found by clicking the "W-2 Options" link on the HR website. Mac users: please do not use the "Preview" application to view your W-2. Remember, the electronic option is the sustainable option.

Contact the LIS Technology Help Desk at <helpdesk> or 387-1000, with any questions.

Hand deliver time cards to payroll by noon Dec. 19

The Cabinet has approved Dec. 24-26 as holidays. This holiday schedule limits time for processing bi-weekly payroll for the pay period ending Dec. 19 with a pay date of Dec. 31. Therefore, timecards for the pay period ending Dec. 19 are due in the Payroll Office by noon Friday, Dec. 19. Please estimate, based on your normal work schedule, what your Friday work hours will be. Any adjustments to these estimates should be indicated on your next timecard and will be applied to the next pay period.

Message from health services

Important: The CDC still recommends getting a flu vaccine. Even if vaccine effectiveness is reduced against "drifted" circulating viruses, the vaccine will protect you from the other strains. Evidence also suggests the vaccine may make illness milder. Come to Health Service to get your flu shot today while supplies last.

GoPrint Pop-Up removal

Between the end of fall 2014 and the start of spring 2015, the GoPrint Pop-Up will be removed from all Luther faculty, staff, classroom and lab workstations. Starting today, rather than waiting for the Pop-Up to "pop," go to print.luther.edu using the browser bookmarks or quicklinks. LIS will add a shortcut to the taskbar in Windows or the dock for Mac. These methods are faster and more secure than the Pop-Up. For details, see GoPrint Pop-Up Removal.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

And finally...

Thursday, Dec. 18 is National Re-gifting Day in honor of the most popular day for organizations to host their staff Christmas parties. Whether it's a staff party, family celebration or friend gathering, consider re-gifting, making something homemade or buying local as a way to reduce, reuse and recycle this year. Consider it a holiday gift to the earth.

"It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honor nature's gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever." -Jimmy Carter
